Seed by Ania Ahlborn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed this book. I read books by this author before, so going in I had high expectations and this one did not disappoint. It reminded me of Insidious and Hereditary. The story is set in Louisiana and is about a family of four. Jack, Amy, Abigail and Charlotte. All is well until they get into a car accident one night. Jack claims he saw mysterious eyes, but no one else saw them, except for his youngest daughter Charlotte. Unexplainable events start to occur and the family is forever changed. *SPOILER ALERT* I might be weird, but my favorite character was Charlotte (or I guess the demon inside her?). I thought Jack was your typical male main character, not that I minded that because I think it fit well with the story. It’s always the men that don’t believe their wives and call them crazy. And they are never there when you need them, when all the crazy shit is happening. All characters were well developed and the suspense scen...

Spaceman of Bohemia

Spaceman of Bohemia is a refreshing and enlightening read. The story introduces us to a small town Czech scientist named Jakub. He has ambitions to become the first Czech astronaut, so when the oppurtunity to take a dangerous solo trip to Venus arises, he takes it. Although he is leaving his devoted wife, Lenka, he is determined to complete this mission. As he travels through space, he discovers a possibly imaginary giant alien spider. They develop a bond after having deep conversations about life, love, and death. This book filled me with warmth, surprise and laughter. It also made me think deeply about topics that I have never pondered before. The author, Jaroslav Kalfar, did an outstanding job telling this story. I believe that all the characters were well developed and believable. I found myself relating to Jakub and even thinking the same thoughts as him on more than one instance. At first, I was very concerned for Jakub because this was a dangerous mission and he was going alone....

Playground by Aron Beauregard

Rating: 5 This book was disgustingly good, however it is not for those who are easily disturbed. Imagine the SAW movies, but instead of adults in the trap, it is children. The story starts with introducing the reader to a man named Rock and three low income families. These three families were each approached by Rock who said his boss would pay them three thousand dollars for their children to test some new playground equipment. The beginning is a bit predictable. These families need money so of course they are going to take the offer. Have they not heard of the saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”? They decide to make the trip and take their children, however the playground is not what they expected. I finished this book in two days because I could not put it down. The suspense was killing me. I had to know what happened to the children and their parents. If I stopped reading, my mind would reel about these characters. The characters and scenes were brought t...

Punk 57 by Penelopy Douglas

Rating: 3 Spice: 3 Would recommend: no Would read again?: no I don't usually read books about teenagers anymore but this book was recommended to me by a friend. First off, the main character pissed me off. I thought that I was going to like her because when I read the summary she seemed cool, however I was tricked just like Misha was. He thought that Ryan was a good person, but it turned out that she was actually really shitty. In my opinion, she didn't even redeem herself at the end. I felt bad for Misha the entire time. Imagine you think you are talking to this amazing and caring person for years. You believe this person is great and end up falling in love with them through their mind and words. But then you meet the person and everything changes. They aren't who they painted themselves to be. Ryan was a  bitch, but sometimes I did understand why. The characters are 18 years old and in high school, so I understand why she acted the way she did sometimes.
